Conner Olhoft

Owner

ABOUT US

Meet Conner Olhoft

Hi, I’m Conner Olhoft, the owner of Olhoft’s Window and Surface Care. I haul junk around Morris and Stevens County, from a single couch in the garage to a machine shed nobody’s opened in years. Out here, a lot of it can’t just go to the curb, and trips to the transfer station on 470th Avenue add up fast. My name is on the business, so every cleanout has to be one I’m proud of. Here’s how I got here.

Olhoft’s started with windows. Before I ran my own business, I worked at Superior Industries in Morris, and cleaning the windows there was one of my tasks. I liked making dirty glass look like nothing was there. Then I added pressure washing, soft washing, and gutters. Junk hauling is the newest addition, and it fits better than you’d think. A lot of cleanouts end with a house that needs its windows and siding done before it’s listed.

A cleanout isn’t finished when the trailer’s full. It’s finished when the floor is swept and you can park in the garage again. Everything gets carried out and loaded for you, and lifting weights in my off hours comes in handy when it’s a chest freezer coming up the basement stairs. Paint and chemicals get set aside, with directions to the county’s hazardous waste days. And you get a price range from your photos before I show up.

We send back a range, usually the same day. On arrival, we confirm the final price before we touch anything.

02

We Load and Sweep

We carry everything out, load the trailer, and sweep up behind us. You point. We lift.

04
STANDARDS & CRAFT

Best Practices for Junk Removal in Morris

The best junk haulers around here follow a few standards. We hold ourselves to every one.

01

Price it before it's loaded.

A fair hauler confirms your price on site, before the first item hits the trailer. No surprises at the end.

02

Pull out the banned items first.

Appliances, tires, electronics, and paint each follow their own Minnesota rules. They get sorted before the load goes anywhere.

03

Donate what still works.

A clean dresser or kitchen table can help a neighbor. It shouldn't ride to a landfill in North Dakota.

04

Protect the house on the way out.

Door frames, railings, and floors take a beating when a sleeper sofa leaves the basement. Pad what you'd hate to repaint.

05

Leave the space usable.

A cleanout isn't done until the floor is swept and you can park in the garage again.

TRANSPARENT PRICING

How Much Does Junk Removal Cost in Morris?

Most junk removal jobs around Morris cost about $100 to $600. A single bulky item usually runs $75 to $175. A packed garage or full load of mixed junk can reach $500 to $800. National 2026 cost guides put the typical job between $150 and $600.

LOAD SIZE
WHAT USUALLY FITS
TYPICAL PRICE
Single item
One couch, mattress, or appliance
$75 to $175
Quarter load
A few furniture pieces or a closet's worth
$150 to $300
Half load

$300 to $450
Full load
A packed garage or a small apartment
$500 to $800
Heavy debris
Shingles, concrete, or dirt
Priced by weight. Ask first.

Your price depends on how much space your junk takes up, how heavy it is, and what's in it. Appliances, mattresses, and TVs carry disposal fees. Stairs, long carries, and jobs outside Stevens County can add a bit. You'll know your price before we load anything.

Is it expensive? Depends how you look at it. Borrowing a truck, making two trips, and paying fees at the transfer station adds up fast. So does a sore back.

STEVENS COUNTY DISPOSAL

Where Your Junk Goes in Stevens County

Every load from Morris ends up somewhere. Most of it goes to the Stevens County Transfer Station at the old county landfill on 470th Avenue. The landfill closed years ago, and the county built the transfer station in 1989. Today, county garbage gets packed there and trucked out. Half goes to the Pope/Douglas waste to energy plant in Alexandria. The other half goes to a landfill in Gwinner, North Dakota.

So junk doesn't just vanish. It gets sorted, weighed, and charged for. The transfer station takes mattresses and carpet for a fee, and appliances and electronics cost extra too. Clean yard waste goes to the county compost site for free. Hours run 8 to 4 on weekdays and 8 to noon on Saturdays.

Here's what that means for the stuff we haul most, and how we handle each one.

WHAT YOU'RE STUCK WITH
WHY IT'S A HASSLE AROUND MORRIS
HOW WE HANDLE IT
A dead fridge or freezer in the basement

State law requires appliances to be reused or recycled. They can't go in your garbage cart.

We carry it up the stairs and take it to an appliance recycler

An old tube TV or computer monitor

Picture tubes contain lead, so they're banned from the trash. The local thrift store won't take TVs either.

Hauled to an electronics recycler, never dumped

A mattress or sleeper sofa

Too big for the cart, and the thrift store on Atlantic Avenue won't accept them

Loaded and dropped at the transfer station, fee included in your price

Branches and stumps after a storm

After the June 2026 storm, the City of Morris made one pass for branches. Stumps weren't picked up.

We haul both. Clean brush goes to the compost site.

Half-full paint cans and garage chemicals

They're hazardous and can't ride with general junk

We set them aside and point you to the county's hazardous waste collection days

A barn or farm shop full of decades of stuff

Long gravel drives and mixed loads of metal, wood, tires, and trash

We sort as we load, so scrap metal and tires don't end up as landfill

Honestly, this is where a lot of haulers cut corners. Sorting takes time. It's also the difference between doing it right and just dumping it somewhere.

DIY TIPS & STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Hauling It Yourself? Here's Where Everything Goes

Got a pickup and a free Saturday? Good for you. Here are straight answers to what people around Morris ask us most.

QUESTION
OUR ANSWER
Where can I dump junk in Morris?

The Stevens County Transfer Station, 23780 470th Avenue. Weekdays 8 to 4, Saturdays 8 to noon. Most loads carry a fee.

Can a mattress go in my garbage cart?

No. It's too big, and the transfer station charges a fee per mattress.

How do I get rid of an old fridge?

Some stores take the old one when they deliver a new one. Otherwise it goes to a recycler. State law keeps appliances out of the trash.

Where does old paint go?

The county's household hazardous waste days at the County Highway Garage in Morris, usually spring through early fall. Morris Lumber and Millwork takes small amounts of paint, stain, and varnish, but no spray cans.

Is there a free way to get rid of furniture?

If it's clean and works, try the Someplace Safe Thrift Store at 708 Atlantic Avenue. They don't take mattresses, sleeper sofas, TVs, large appliances, or exercise equipment.

What about all the moving boxes?

Free recycling roll-offs sit at the UMN Morris Facilities Management building and just south of the County Highway Garage.

Where does yard waste go?

The county compost site. Yard waste is free there. Trees and branches cost a small fee.

Any tips for hauling in my own pickup?

Tarp it and strap it down. Nobody wants your old recliner bouncing down Highway 59.

Honestly, a basement freezer, steep stairs, and three trips out to 470th Avenue are where DIY stops being worth it. That's where we come in.
